Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to cosmetically enhance the size and shape of a woman's breast using implants. Breast augmentation is performed for a number of reasons varying from patient to patient, some cosmetic and some medical. Breast augmentation is achieved by placing implants to increase the volume and projection of the breasts. Breast augmentation is considered an aesthetic surgical procedure that most often occurs with women who have not been satisfied with her final breast development size reached after puberty, and in some cases women's breasts have developed unevenly and she would like to achieve proper symmetry.

The breast implants used are either a silicone rubber shell filled with either medical grade silicone gel or a salt-water solution known as saline. There is no such thing as good quality cheap implants as can be seen recently with the PIP implants problems. Many surgeons abroad were using these implants to save money so that they could offer big discounts against UK prices. We do not allow any of our surgeons to use anything but leading brand products.

Implants are usually placed above muscle but beneath the fascia the outer lining of the muscle and are usually more round and less saggy than natural breasts of identical size, but most women agree that these differences are actually improvements.

The method of inserting and positioning your implant will depend on your preferences, anatomy and your surgeon's recommendation. The incision can be underneath the breast, under the arm pit or around the nipple (areola). After the incisions are made the breast augmentation surgeon is able to create a pocket, either on top of the pectoral muscle or beneath them, and insert the implant. In some circumstances the plastic surgeon will suggest a breast augmentation accompanied by a breast lift for women's breasts that have become saggy.

Breast augmentation surgery is an operation so if you are considering having cosmetic surgery you should be as well informed as possible by reading websites, watching tv shows and having a consultation with a surgeon.
